Question asked

US Cocoa ($US/MT)

Hi guys, thanks for all the work which goes in to MM. I've gone back to looking at other instruments to trade again as I wait for a pull back. I'm certainly one person who can't understand current valuations. Anyway, I've entered into a couple of cocoa trades as I get a good carry rate, and to me, the risk reward looks pretty good. I know it's not your usual area of expertise, but would like your opinion as I'm assuming you may have better information available through your broker platforms than my general research. Regards, Simon

Answer

Hi Simon,

Chocolate we can relate to, not so much Cocoa although Shawn used to trade it and the other “softs” many decades ago. We are going to revert to technical signals on this one:

  • Shawn’s neutral to slightly bearish Cocoa ~$US8800 with no clear risk/reward on offer to him.

This is one of many fascinating examples of inflation sweeping the world in the last few years with cocoa prices having risen 5-fold, its no surprise the cost of underling good such as chocolate have increased across the board.
