Hi Scott,
Two very different and interesting businesses here:
Uber Technologies Inc (UBER US): UBER has become a household name of phenomenal scale. In Q1 of 2025 it enjoyed US $11.5 billion from 3 billion trips (+18% YoY). The companies enjoyed excellent growth in its Advertising division, which is now generating ~US $1.5 billion annual run-rate, growing at 60% year-on-year. They are indeed investing in the autonomous vehicle landscape, the very space which could elevate it to the next level or see it struggle in the years ahead.
- We’re neutral on UBER around $US83 due to its uncertain next chapter, although its executing well at present.
Intuitive Surgical Inc (ISRG US): For subscribers unfamiliar with IRRG its a medical technology company best known for developing the da Vinci Surgical System—a robot-assisted platform that helps surgeons perform minimally invasive surgeries with greater precision and control. The company’s is performing strongly in 2025, driven by rising demand for robotic-assisted surgeries, though facing some cost pressure from tariffs. Q1 2025 revenue was US$2.25 billion, up 19% YoY, while procedures were up +17% globally, with strong uptake of the new da Vinci 5 system.
- We like ISRG around the current ~$US500 area believing its technology is taking us into the future of medical science.
