Question asked

American ADR’s

Thank you for your daily news sheets and podcasts- they are great! Do ADR's from an American based Nasdaq company (KZIA) need to be held by a particular company (Bank of New York Mellon ) or are there other options? The bank has sent USA cheques which cannot be taken by any bank in Australia and the Australian based office for Kazia never responds to phone calls when messages are left. I would love to dispose of them but their value is hardly worth it and I live in hope they will one day do something good with their trials! Thanks Ann

Answer

Hi Ann,

Thanks for the thumbs up!

Those shares could be moved to an international broker who operates in Australia, as long as you have the paperwork associated with those shares. That broker should then be able to cash those cheque’s and allocate the funds to your account, though most brokers will only cash cheques that are less than 6 months old.

We can understand your frustration, dealing on the international side can be complex if things are not all in the one place.
