ASX index once volume returns

Hi guys, Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Look forward to the ongoing reports and quality views. I'm hoping I've just squeezed in for the cut off the weekend. You mentioned in todays report that 8000 looking likely for the ASX. Would you call this a fair value after the US rerating, or is this just down to the low volume Christmas period? I was in for a Santa rally, but got caught out, I wasn't expecting such a sell off and now second guessing what range we'll likely see once the Christmas dinner has been digested and we all slowly return to work. Do you think it would be a fair call to say that it's been over cooked and we'll see a decent bounce in the new year. I would've thought our stocks are looking appealing at the moment due to the exchange rate and with any luck some China stimulus and rate cuts. Regards, Simon

Answer

Hi Simon,

Sorry you missed cut off by a few hours but it is Christmas! Hence brief answer – Happy Christmas & 2025!

  • Our “Best Guess” into 2025 is a deeper pullback will ensue, probably taking the local index under 8000, especially because there’s lots of momentum traders sitting on large profitable positions.

However, the with the RBA about to start cutting rates, we hope, and Trumps market friendly policies still to follow we believe this will provide an excellent opportunity to buy quality stocks assuming the market basically moves as one.
