On Friday, HCA reported quarterly results that were well ahead of expectations. There had been concern around costs pressures largely associated with labour costs, however that wasn’t the case. Their earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter came in at $4.21 v $3.75 expected while there was no mention of guidance in the update, which implies there is no change to previously announced guidance and that is also a positive. All in all, a decent update against very weak expectations saw this ‘cheap’ stock rally 11% on the session.
