Afternoon Report Wednesday 16 April 2014
The ASX200 had a good session today, closing +32 points or +0.6% to 5,420 points.
Both the banking and resource sectors pushed the market higher, with Westpac (WBC) closing +0.6% to $34.59 and BHP +0.4% to $37.94 on increased full year iron ore guidance.
Seek Ltd (SEK) was the standout of the day in our eyes, closing +3.4% as it correlates with a bounce in the NASDAQ. See our Top 10 on the "Tech Sector."
The gold stocks surprisingly closed better than expected give weakness in the golf price, with Newcrest Mining (NCM) closing -0.8% to $10.32 and OceanaGold (OGC) -0.4% to $2.43.
