Why is Sunrise Energy Metals Ltd (ASX: SRL) trading up ~9%?
For reference, Sunrise Energy Metals (ASX: SRL) is an Australian critical-minerals developer focused on its Sunrise Project in NSW, one of the world’s largest and highest-grade undeveloped scandium deposits. The project is targeting scandium production for use in lightweight aluminium alloys, aerospace, defence and advanced technologies, alongside potential nickel and cobalt production.
Scandium is a lightweight, silvery critical metal prized for making aluminium alloys stronger, lighter, more corrosion-resistant and easier to weld, but economic deposits are rare and the market remains small and illiquid; 99.99% scandium oxide currently trades around US$600/kg, with higher-purity material fetching roughly US$700/kg.
Just 24-hours after joining the ASX 200 the $3.3bn stock is roaring higher on no company specific news with simple ETF/fund Manager money flow likely driving the share price.
It’s worth remembering that Index-inclusion buying is mechanical, not fundamental as a flow-driven move rather than a re-rating on news.
- The scandium/battery-materials story unchanged.
