Opinion
Albermarle Corp (ALB US) US$109.47
ALB is the world’s largest listed lithium producer and is leading the way in 2026, breaking to new lows overnight, having more than halved from its May high. The recent news and underlying weakness in the stock are causing MN to reconsider our position.
Portfolio Amendments – International Equities Portfolio
We are making three changes to the International Equities Portfolio
Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB) US$135.03
Albemarle has pulled back sharply from recent highs, bringing the world’s largest lithium producer back into more interesting territory. We previously owned ALB in the International Equities Portfolio, selling at ~$163. While that proved a little early as the stock continued higher, the subsequent retreat to around ~$130 has again put it on our Hitlist.
Albermarle Corp (ALB US) $US96.23
ALB was smacked ~9% overnight, the drop was primarily due to the company's announcement that it would sell a controlling stake in its Ketjen refining catalyst solutions business to KPS Capital Partners for $US660mn.
Albermarle Corp (ALB US) $US80.76
Overnight, US lithium giant ALB closed up +7% on the CATL news. This is not as exciting as yesterday's moves across Asia, suggesting today’s local session could be more muted.
Albermarle Corp (ALB US) $US50.76
The impact of Trump's tariffs was huge overnight, with ALB surging over +19%, albeit from a low base. In February, this $US7bn Li goliath company announced it could generate breakeven free cash flow in 2025 without lithium prices rising, positioning it well if/when Li prices can recover some of their deep losses.
Albermarle Corp (ALB US) $US79.25
ALB rose 3.5% overnight, finally offering some hope for the world's largest lithium (Li) producer, which has struggled over the last few years as the Li price plummeted.
Albemarle Corp (ALB US) $US97.49
US lithium goliath ALB has halved production and stopped expansion at its $2 billion lithium hydroxide plant in southwest Western Australia as Li prices tumbled.
Albemarle Corp (ALB US) $US103.28
Due to the extremely weak Li price, US lithium goliath ALB has halved production and stopped expansion at its $2 billion lithium hydroxide plant in southwest Western Australia, also writing down the asset’s value by about $1.5 billion.
